The UC Santa Cruz men and women Swimming and Diving teams each placed third at their home meet to open the season. The meet featured nine schools from the West Coast as several Banana Slugs made their college debuts
The women finished with 580.5 points and the men totaled 663 points. Cal State East Bay won the women's crown for the second year in a row, while Fresno Pacific took home the men's title.
The 200 Medley Relay of
Coralie Norenberg,
Zoe Gronert,
Kaitlyn Armstrong and
Tereza Shea finished fourth in 1:53.59. The 400 Free relay closed the meet finishing second, as Norenberg,
Emerald Kwang,
Maddy Gruender and Armstrong finishing in 3:36.29.
Other top performances saw Gruender placing third in the 200 Back with a time of 2:10.51,
Keaton Canaday was seventh in the 200 IM in 2:15.92,
Fiona Lei was fifth in the 50 Fly in 26.95, and
Kirsten Boyle earning second in the 200 Breaststroke in 2:30.69.
For the men, second-day standouts included
Massimo Reyna winning the 500 Free in 4:44.21, while first-years
Jude Robinson and
Luke Scanlon earned Top Five finishes in the 200 Fly. Robinson was third in 1:56.95 and Scanlon was 5th in 1:59.92. Another newcomer,
Bryson Schmid, was fifth in the 100 Free in 48:01.
Reyna teamed with three newcomers (
Morgan Madril,
Adam Sinclair, and Schmid) for a fourth-place finish in the 400 Free Relay.
