Women's tennis finish ITA adventure

CLAREMONT--Four Banana Slugs had singles matches in three different draws on Sunday as the UC Santa Cruz women's tennis team finished their time at the ITA West Regional .

Meghana Damojipurapu lost in flight one's consolation semifinal to Olivia Rockwood of Redlands, who got past Tanner Rowland in the quarterfinals. Chloe Wu advanced to the flight two consolation semifinals after a 6-3, 6-3 win over Manasvi Vardham of Whittier. In the flight 3 semifinals, Julia Chiaradia Azzi lost in straight sets to Occidental's Mia Malone.
"Division 3 tennis on the west coast is top notch," said interim head coach Ross Pytko. "We played some teams this weekend that regularly compete for national titles. That kind of competition only makes you stronger. You get to measure yourself against the best and figure out where you need to improve."

In doubles, Rowland and Damojipurapu made the top flight's consolation semifinals before weather curtailed the tournament. UC Santa Cruz heads to Walla Walla Washington next weekend for Whitman's indoor Fall tournament.
