The home court advantage was strong this weekend as UC Santa Cruz took care of the competition in consecutive dual matches.
The Banana Slugs beat NAIA power Westmont on Friday and Division II Holy Names on Saturday by identical 8-1 scores.
UC Santa Cruz swept all six singles matches each day. On Friday, UC Santa Cruz was pushed in the one two and three singles encounters by the Warriors.
Andre Mardirossian won the first set 6-0 before his opponent rallied in the second set. Mardirossian came back and won the tie breaker.
Lucas Chen won at No. 2 7-6, 6-3 and
Sam Hall finished the day by winning a wild one at No. 3 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (6).
Saturday against Holy Names, Mardirossian, Chen, Hall,
Andrew Tjoa,
Praneet Varade, and
David Jackson all took their matches in straight sets.
"It has been a tough couple weeks of back to back competition, and they have continued to push through and be resilient," said head coach James Soper. "Very proud of the guys after this weekend. They continue to show progress after each match."
The Banana Slugs will return to action on March 5th for Senior Day when they host Chabot College.
