With sights set on the postseason, the 2022-23 Women's Basketball team opens their season this weekend on the road.
The Banana Slugs play Whittier 1:00pm on Saturday before finishing the trip Sunday afternoon at Caltech.
The Banana Slugs return all five starters from last season's 16-4 team.
Ashley Kowack,
Amanda Inserra, Aubrey Wagner,
Kaylee Murphy and Tess Oakley-Stilson are all seniors and look to make their marks on the program in their final season.Â
Lilli Hammons, a forward/post player who sat out last season, returns to the team. Six First Year players form a highly-regarded incoming class looking who will make an impact their first year.
Whittier is coming off a 16-9 season where they won the SCIAC Tournament and played nationally-ranked Whitman tough in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The Poets are led by Senior Lainie James, who averaged 14.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in starting 25 games last year.
Caltech set a school record for wins last year and also had their most Conference wins in school history. First-Year Head Coach Annie Tarakchian inherits all five starters, including Sahana Saikumar who led the Beavers in points and rebounds.
Nine home games are scheduled this year for UC Santa Cruz, with six of them against Division III opponents.
