UC Santa Cruz women's basketball opened on a 30-5 run and were never threatened in their 77-46 win at Cal Maritime.
The Banana Slugs improved to 5-0 on the year.
UC Santa Cruz allowed the host Keelhaulers just two made field goals in the first quarter to build their lead. A late run by Cal Maritime in the secoond trimmed the halftime lead to 19 at 42-23. UC Santa Cruz turned up the pressure after the break, and the lead was 60-34 at the end of three quarters, allowing the Banana Slug reserves to get extended playing time.
For the game, UC Santa Cruz shot 40.2% (33-82) from the field, had a 56-36 rebound advantage, and grabbed 13 steals.Â
Amanda Inserra had 12 points, as did
Lilli Hammons and
Talysha Wilkerson off the bench. Inserra had a pair of three-pointers to pass Jenna Chabot (2003-06) for ninth on the school's career made threes list.
Ashley Kowack and
Kaylee Murphy each had 10, with Murphy adding a pair of blocks and 16 rebounds.
Alicia Porter had a game-high 31 points plus nine rebounds to lead the Keelhaulers, who played with just six players.
The Banana Slugs have another local contest on Tuesday when they travel to Menlo College.
