Men's Soccer closes regular season with Senior Day

Simpson gets pair of early goals to upend Banana Slugs

The men's soccer team celebrated senior day on Friday afternoon with a game against Simpson University that ended in a 2-0 loss. This was Santa Cruz's and Simpson's first time meeting on the field. The Slugs ended their season with 6-9-3 and said goodbye to fourteen seniors: Tanner Boyea, Ronaldo Nava, Luca Bravo, Will Barba, Davin Cox, Paolo Santiago, Itay Rabinovich, Ethan Kingery, Christian Locatelli, Rory Monninger, Liam Linas, Arman Salimi, Connor Branson and Cole Simes.

Simpson got two early goals against UC Santa Cruz within the first twenty minutes. The first goal was off a corner kick and the second came on a free kick. The Slugs held them off the rest of the period and had two shots on goal by Furio Jacomini and Locatelli.

The second period held a series of fouls being traded between both teams, but neither team successfully scoring. UC Santa Cruz put pressure on Simpson's goalie with several shots on goal at the start of the second period.  Bravo, Linas and Tyler Allred all had shots on goal within the first ten minutes of the period. Both teams got yellow cards near the end of the second period, reflecting the intensity of both teams' will to secure the win. The early goals were the only ones on the scoreboard as Simpson secured the win despite UC Santa Cruz having a 15-5 shot advantage and 7-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Banana Slugs will find out on Monday who they will play to open the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament.
