Four different goal scorers found the back of the next as UC Santa Cruz defeated Lincoln 4-0 on Saturday in the schools' first-ever meeting.
Before the game, the Banana Slugs celebrated their Senior Class of
Karina Bulli,
Alyssa Diaz-Tucker,
Celine Ertekin,
Katie Herm,
Julia Hernandez,
Sophia Makarem, and
Eleanor Spiller.
Once the whistle blew, Spiller started the fun with a ceremonial shot from midfield circle five seconds in before being subbed out. It was a sign how the rest of the day would go as UC Santa Cruz outshot the visitors 32-3, including 19-3 shots on goal. Hernandez almost got the scoring rolling in the 11th minute, but her shot rattled off the crossbar and Ertekin missed the rebound high.
Bulli did open the scoring 4 minutes later when she got open in the box and put home a cross from
Payton Cichowski. It was 2-0 in the 32nd minute when
Amanda Scott scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season with a blast to the top off another assist from Cichowski.
Camille Anneet made it 3-0 when she pounced on a rebound from Herm's free kick with four seconds left before halftime.
Anneet scored her first career goal
right before halftime
Bronwyn Eyre would score what would be the last goal 7:16 into the second half when she got on the end of Ertekin's corner kick.
Diaz-Tucker had three saves for her 19th career shutout. She also passed Gabby Trujillo for sixth place in school history for career saves with 122.
The schools meet again on Tuesday as part of a doubleheader at the Lower East Field.
