Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer battles against Claremont in 1-0 loss

Second half goal edges Banana Slugs

UC Santa Cruz had an edge in shots and possession, but an early second-half goal was the difference in a 1-0 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday at the Lower East Field.
The Banana Slugs (1-2-1) played an even game with their rivals to the south, in a game that features great passing and back-and-forth action.
Sub Katie Herm had the Slugs' best chance in the first half but her 38th minute shot was saved. CMS had a last-second shot go wide as the teams went into the half scoreless.

The visitors broke through 2:34 into the second half for what would be the game's only score. Alexia Santos almost equalized in the 61st minute but her free kick was saved by CMS's Athena Manthouli. Overall, UCSC had 56% of the possession in the game and 9 shots to CMS's 8. Alyssa Diaz-Tucker had a season-high five saves for the Banana Slugs in the game.
UC Santa Cruz plays another 2019 NCAA Tournament team next when they travel to Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday.
