TACOMA- UC Santa Cruz stayed close with the Puget Sound Loggers early, but a big second half start gave the home team a 78-63 win.
UC Santa Cruz goes to 2-11 after their two games in the Pacific Northwest.
The first half had ten lead changes and four ties as the Banana Slugs stayed even with the Loggers. However, Puget Sound opened the second half with a 12-4 run to take control, and never let UCSC get closer than seven the rest of the way. Puget Sound shot 53.3% from the field in the second 20 minutes, including 57.1% (4-7) from three.
Avri Finch had team-highs of 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead UC Santa Cruz. It was his second-straight double-double and sixth of the season, with the 25 points a career-high.
Ian McCloskey added 11 points.
Simon Mueller-Landsvik dished out three assists to move into the school's career Top Ten with 175.
C.J. Geathers led Puget Sound (5-6) with 22 points.
The Banana Slugs will head to Las Vegas to play in the D3hoops.com Classic next week, beginning with Maryville (Tennessee) on Wednesday evening.
