Box Score CLAREMONT (12-12) - UC Santa Cruz had a season-best nine three-pointers, but Claremont-Mudd-Scripps made their free-throws down the stretch to hold off the Banana Slugs 73-67 on Sunday night.

Ian McCloskey hit a three-pointer to give them a 28-26 lead with 7:38 left in the first half. The hosts however went on a 20-7 run the rest of the period, including a layup at the buzzer for a 46-35 halftime lead. The Banana Slugs responded with a 6-0 run the first four minutes of the second half, including two steals and three blocks, to get within five at 46-41. They got it to a one possession game several times but could not close out the Stags in the final minutes.
McCloskey led UC Santa Cruz with a career-high 19 points. He was 7-14 from the field and 2-8 from long range.
Avri Finch added 15 points and team-highs of nine rebounds and four steals.
Zino Okah finished with six points (on a pair of threes in the second half) in his first career start.
Josh Angle led the Stags (6-1) with 30 points. Claremont was 18-22 (.818) from the free-throw line, including a perfect 8-8 in the second half. UC Santa Cruz only had 10 free-throw attempts in the game, hitting six.
UC Santa Cruz finishes the road-trip tomorrow afternoon when they play Caltech in Pasadena.
