SALISBURY, MD -
Amanda Scott finished off a pass from
Caitlin Pieper in the 86th minute as UC Santa Cruz finally wore down Mary Washington in a 1-0 win.
UC Santa Cruz (9-8-2) won their third-straight match and advanced to the Coast-To-Coast Championship against Christopher Newport Saturday at 1:00pm Eastern.
The Banana Slugs kept the pressure on the Eagles throughout the last ten minutes.
In the 85th minute, Scott nearly broke the deadlock but the ten-yard shot was deflected wide for a corner. Salisbury cleared the corner but couldn't get the ball out of their half. Finally,
Celine Ertekin sent a ball in from the right flank that Pieper deftly one-touched to the far post for Scott to knock it in for the eventual game winner.
"We were knocking the whole time, so a goal was needed," said Pieper. "And when I crossed it there, I knew someone would be there." Scott added "I really had the confidence in us. I had that feeling as soon as Celine got the ball, it knew it was going in the back of the net."
Payton Cichowski almost iced the game with under two minutes left, but her left-post header went wide and UC Santa Cruz won back possession to play out the clock.
Overall, UC Santa Cruz had a 14-7 shot advantage and 8-1 corner kick advantage.
Alyssa Diaz-Tucker had three saves in goal.
The C2C Final on Saturday is a rematch of a game in Santa Cruz on September 24th that the Captains won 1-0.
