The UC Santa Cruz Women's soccer team put up a valiant fight this sunny afternoon. Going up against Division II member Dominican (CA), the Slugs went into a heart stopping double overtime that resulted in a 2-2 tie.Â

Katie Herm started the scoring in the 3rd minute.
Fiona Nielsen, a defender, took a free kick from 30 yards and sent it near the goal post. Herm took the pass from Nielsen and shot it towards the goal where it hit off the crossbar and bounced in, in an epic start off to the match.Â
Dominican's Tanya Bills, a junior forward, posed to be UC Santa Cruz's biggest threat. In the 33th minute, Dominican made a comeback with a goal from Bills assisted by senior midfielder Sofia Odron from 25 yards out.Â
In the 54th minute, Bills made another goal on UCSC, putting the Penguin women in the lead. UC Santa Cruz swiftly ended this lead, when in the 64th minute UC Santa Cruz was able to tie the game with an own goal after the Penguins could not clear a cross.Â
The game went into overtime, where the Banana Slugs nearly won it thanks to Herm in the 99th minute, but her shot was saved as the first overtime ended.
Santa Cruz took 5 corner kicks while Dominican took 2. The visiting Penguins had a 19-15 shot advantage. Both teams were playing hard and tough, resulting in the Slugs having 14 fouls and the Penguins having 13.
