In the 92nd all-time meeting between the two schools, 19th-ranked UC Santa Cruz women's volleyball team played fast and furious in a home sweep of Mills College.
The Banana Slugs (18-2) hit .551 in the 25-2, 25-3, 25-7 win over the short-handed Cyclones (1-8), who played with just six available players.
UCSC hit .519 and .600 in quickly winning the first two sets. In Set Three, Mills grabbed an early 1-0 lead and were within 5-3 before UCSC ran off an 11-3 run to take the lead to 16-6. UCSC ended the match on a 9-1 run, with
Samantha Taylor serving four aces during the run.
The Banana Slugs enjoyed a 20-0 ace advantage, with
Claire Okerlund serving for eight, Taylor's four, and
Sinead Beaupain,
Peyton Tazelaar and
Trinity Neal serving for two each.
Okerlund led UCSC with 12 kills and
Kelly Ann Greene added 9.
The Banana Slugs have one more warmup before the Coast-To-Coast Conference tournament, when they host Cabrillo College October 30th at the West Field House.
