Saturday the Men's tennis team played a heated match against 24th-ranked Cal Tech, falling 8-1.
Freshmen Andre Mardirossian and Suriya Sundaram were able to get a win for the Banana Slugs in the #3 doubles match with a 8-2 score. The Slugs' #1 doubles team, Lucas Chen and Andrew Tjoa, lost in a close match against one of the nation's top doubles teams 6-8. The #2 doubles team with David Jackson and Reini Igni played to two match points but unfortunately fell short 8-7.
The singles matches were closer in score, but Cal Tech was able to pull away with six wins. The #1 singles player for the Slugs, Chen, finished his match at 1-6, 0-6 against Caltech All-American Varun Shanker.. The #2 singles match with Mardirossian concluded with him retiring after the first set. In the #3 singles match with Jackson, the final scores were 1-6, 3-6. Senior captain Kris Harris finished with 4-6, 1-6 at #4 and Andrew Tjoa fell short at 4-6, 6-7. The final single match with junior Matt Kermin concluded the matches with a score of 2-6, 0-6.
Senior Captain Kris Harris added "we played very well but we are honestly still trying to figure it all out, considering the line-up changes as many players are just coming back from injury and many are still injured."
