Men's tennis defeats Cal Lutheran

On a sunny Sunday, UC Santa Cruz defeated Cal Lutheran 6-3 in men's tennis action.

The dual was evenly matched throughout with many long rallies and the final two singles matches going into tiebreakers, highlighted by Yaroslav Yanin's 6-2, 1-6 ,7-6 (13-11) win over Mike Sulahian at No. 5 for the match. The Banana Slugs (2-6) picked up their second Division III win of the year.

The Banana Slugs opened with a 2-1 lead in the doubles, winning both the No. 1 and 3 duets 8-7. Senior Chad Le Duff won quickly at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1, but the Kingsmen took the next two matches to tie it at 3-all.

UCSC however, won the last three singles matches to claim the win, setting up a raucous celebration when Yanin won his marathon to clinch the winning point.

The team takes a break for Finals before playing again next Saturday against 2018 National Semifinalist Emory at Pomona-Pitzer.
