THOUSAND OAKS- Sam Gabbard's 24 points led five Banana Slugs in double figures as UC Santa Cruz beat Cal Lutheran 81-67 in a historic win Saturday afternoon.

UCSC (12-10) won their sixth straight game, tying the best mark in school-history set in the 1983-84 season. It was also the first UCSC win at Cal Lutheran since December 2011, a streak of five games.

It was also the 74th career win for head coach Ron DuBois at UC Santa Cruz, passing Duane Garner for the most wins in school history

The Banana Slugs shot 51.6% (32-62) from the field in the game, compared to 37.7% (20-53) by Cal Lutheran, who fell to 5-13.

Gabbard added a team-high eight rebounds to help UCSC have a 41-28 rebounding edge. Tyler Klingenbeck added 15 points and 6 rebounds. Will Crain and Simon Mueller-Landsvik each scored 12 with Mueller-Landsvik dishing a team-high 6 assists.

UCSC opened a game with a 14-5 run and never trailed. CLU did get to within four at 48-44 with 15:19 left in the game, but UCSC responded with a 14-3 run to take control and finished the game with a Klingenbeck dunk to put the icing on the season sweep of their closest Division III rivals.

The teams played a clean game with just 11 turnovers in the contest, six of them committed by the Kingsmen.

The Banana Slugs try to extend the win streak on Sunday when they play the University of Los Angeles College of Divinity.
