Men's tennis enters Top 40;split to finish Spring Break trip

CLAREMONT - UC Santa Cruz men's tennis finished their spring break trip with two hard fought games in southern California.

On Wednesday, the Banana Slugs swept No. 34 George Fox 9-0, taking all six singles matches in straight sets. Then after taking the No.34 spot for themselves on Friday, they fought hard the next day against No. 6 Claremont-Mudd before losing 6-3.

Saturday, the Slugs opened by forcing two of the three doubles matches to tiebreaker. The pair of Ryan Dugan & Chad Stone eventually triumphed 8-7 at No. 1 doubles to find UCSC trailing 2-1 at the start of the singles.

Stone (the D3 West Region Player of the Week) and Chad Le Duff both survived tough opening rounds to eventual sweep their opponents by the same 7-6, 6-1 score. However Dugan had another hard-fought match at No. 5 before falling 7-5, 6-3 and A.J Flora dropped a hardfought battle at No. 4 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 5-7 to give the Stags the match.

UCSC returns home for a pair of home matches before their last Div. III match in two weeks at Whitman.
