SAN RAFAEL (4-1) – The Banana Slugs traveled to San Rafael to take on NCAA Division II member Dominican University. The Penguins won four of the six singles matches that were played and won 6-3.
In their last match, the Banana Slugs lost 6-3 to NAIA member Westmont College in Santa Cruz on Monday while the Penguins won 8-1 over Mills College in Oakland yesterday.
The Penguins won two doubles matches while in the #2 doubles match, the duo of Zoë Brook and Claire Stoner from UC Santa Cruz won 8-3.
"I was super proud of our seniors for their doubles win today. The played relaxed, creative and fun,and they broke open the floodgates for this to become a close match!" said head coach Amy Jensen.
Zoë Brook said "It was great to see the whole team utilize what we've been learning in practice. All-around a really a good match."
The Penguins won four singles matches while the Banana Slugs won two. In the #3 singles match Kayla Manz of UC Santa Cruz defeated kaitlyn Nguyen 6-2, 6-2. The tightest singles match of the day was the #2 singles match between Ashley Isaac of the Banana Slugs and Skyler Schaar of the Penguins. Isaac defeated Schaar 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
