NEWBERG (10-16) – The ITA/NCAA Division III #31 Banana Slugs played their first match of the 2018-19 season as they took on ITA/NCAA Division III #32 George Fox University in Newberg. The Bruins defeated the Banana Slugs 8-1.
The Banana Slugs finished the 2017-18 season with a 4-10 record which concluded in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships with a loss to Claremont Mudd Scripps while the Bruins finished their season with 13-5 record which was finished with a loss to Lewis & Clark College in the Northwest Conference semifinals.
The Bruins won all six singles matches and won two doubles matches while the Banana Slugs won one. In the #1 doubles match, Dugan and Chad Le Duff of UC Santa Cruz defeated Baker and Leach 8-5. In the #3 doubles match between Jackson and Floyd Penners of the Banana Slugs and Justin Barton and Alex Namba of the Bruins, Barton and Alex Namba defeated Jackson and Penners 8-2. The tightest doubles match was the #2 doubles match between Gee and Saxena of UC Santa Cruz and Payton Namba and Thierry Van Os of George Fox defeated Gee and Saxena 8-6.
