Balanced scoring leads UC Santa Cruz past Cal Maritime

VALLEJO - CJ Catina tied her career-high 17 points and Katilin Stephenson had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds as UC Santa Cruz used a 24-point 4th quarter to hold off Cal Maritime 66-59 Tuesday night.

UCSC improved to 4-10 and dropped the Keelhaulers to 5-17.

The Banana Slugs led 30-27 at the half but shot just 4-17 from the field and fell behind by two going into the fourth.  UCSC however shot 8-16 in the last ten minutes. After the game was tied at 47, UCSC went on a 19-5 run to take the lead for good and gut out the win.

Jenna Sparks scored 9 of her 12 points in the last quarter. Kim Tom added 10 points and Katie Young added 11 and a team-high 4 assists. No Keelhauler scored in double figures, with Luisa Delos Reyes, Samantha James and Katherine Freitas each scoring 9.

UCSC returns to southern California this weekend to play Pomona-Pitzer and Antelope Valley.
