Slugs Drop Saturday Afternoon Contest to Bulldogs

REDLANDS, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team fell to the University of Redlands 62-43 on Saturday afternoon. Sarah Reuter led the team with 10 points and rebounds with the Banana Slugs shooting 37.0% from the field and 25.0% from three.
 
How It Happened
The Banana Slugs got off to a quick start as Alexa Litchev scored the game's first basket with a jumper with Claire Galbo, Emilie Ngo, and Sarah Reuter all contributing to an early 8-2 lead for UCSC. Redlands countered with an 11-2 run to close out the quarter, taking a 13-10 advantage into the second.
 
Emilie Ngo hit a three with Bria Tate scoring a layup right after, putting UC Santa Cruz on top once again at 15-13 with 8:26 left in the second. Redlands answered with a 5-0 of their own to regain the lead at 18-15 but the Banana Slugs countered once again, using two points from Reuter and two from Litchev to go up 19-18 with 3:30 left in the half. The Bulldogs managed to rattle off eight unanswered points to take a 26-19 lead into halftime.
 
Out of the break, the Bulldogs began to pull away, using a 14-4 run to extend their lead to 17 points at 40-23. From there the two teams went an even 9-9 with Alyssa Jackson adding five points while Galbo and Ngo both scored two, putting the Bulldogs ahead 49-32 heading into the fourth.
 
A 7-0 run from Redlands started the quarter with UC Santa Cruz countering with an 11-0 run that saw five points from Bria Tate, four from Sarah Reuter and another two from Claire Galbo, cutting the deficit to 13 points at 56-43 with 2:48 on the clock. The comeback attempt was halted as Redlands closed out the contest on a 6-0 run, handing UCSC the 62-43 loss.
