SANTA CRUZ - UC Santa Cruz won their second-straight match against D-III opposition with a 8-1 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
The day began with UCSC taking all three doubles matches in exciting fashon. No. 1 Chad Stone and Ryan Dugan held off the Kingsmen duo of Ransom Braaten and Dara Kashani 8-6. Sean Hollister and Chad Le Duff won 8-3 at No. 2, and Derek Levchenko and Alexander Flora won 8-1 at No. 3.
"We played a competitive Cal Lutheran team," head coach Mike Napoli said. "Doubles is our calling card. With a sweep in doubles, the Slugs followed up with sharp singles play."
Levechenko, Le Duff, Hollister, Flora and Dugan all took their matches in straight sets. Flora swept 6-0 6-0 at No. 5 for the second straight match.
The Slugs take a two-week break before stepping out of the Division with a home match March 9 against Div. II Point Loma Nazarene.
