
Banana Slugs Participate at Johnny Mathis Invitational and De Anza Open

CUPERTINO and SAN FRANCISCO (2-25) – UC Santa Cruz started their 2017 track season as they participated in two events – the Johnny Mathis Invitational hosted by San Francisco State and the De Anza Open hosted by De Anza College.
In the Johnny Mathis Invitational, in the men's 5000 meter run, Paul Colosi finished tenth with a time of 15:15.73. Zahid Anjum finished forty-fourth with a time of 16:10.00. In the women's 5000 meter run, Shannon McClish finished eleventh with a time of 18:42.83, Lizzie Meredith finished seventeenth with a time of 18:57.55, Raissa Boysen finished eighteenth with a time of 18:59.36 and Ashley Anderson finished twenty first with a time of 19:17.23.
In the De Anza Open, Kevin Raja finished twentieth in the men's shot put with a distance of 9.67 meters. In the discus throw, Jeff Zhang finished twenty-fourth with a distance of 26.37 meters, Raja was twenty-fifth with a distance of 26.26 meters and Prem Patel finished twenty eighth. In the hammer throw, Raja finished twenty-third with a distance of 24.52 meters, Zhang finished twenty fourth with a distance of 23.54 meters and Patel finished twenty seventh with a distance of 19.18 meters.
In the javelin throw, Zhang had the best finish of the day for the Banana Slugs as he finished fifth with a distance of 43.34 meters. Patel finished twenty first with a 17.96 meter toss.
The next time the Banana Slugs will hit the track will be March 4th as they participate at the Kim Duyst Invitational in Turlock.
