CLAREMONT (3-20) – The Banana Slugs played their first match of a three match trip to Southern California as they took on ITA NCAA Division III #22 Tufts University in Claremont at the Claremont Racquet Club. The Jumbos won every single doubles match and won the match 8-1.
In their last match, the Banana Slugs lost 6-1 to NCAA Division I University of Missouri-Kanasas City on February 28th in Santa Cruz while the Jumbos defeated ITA NCAA Division III #18 Whitman College 5-4 earlier today in Claremont.
The Jumbos won five singles matches while the Banana Slugs won one. In the #3 singles match between Chad Le Duff of UC Santa Cruz and Rob Jacobson of Tufts, Le Duff defeated Jacobson 6-1, 6-1. In the #1 singles match between Adrian Sirovica of the Banana Slugs and Rohan Gupte of the Jumbos, Gupte defeated Sirovica 7-5, 6-4. In the #2 singles match between Chad Stone of UC Santa Cruz and Jay Glickman of Tufts, Glickman defeated Stone 7-6, 6-2. In the #5 singles match between Alexander Flora of the Banana Slugs and Kevin Kelly of the Jumbos, Kelly defeated Flora 7-6, 4-1, (Retired). In the #6 singles match between Jimmy Soper of UC Santa Cruz and Dan Coran of Tufts, Coran defeated Soper 6-0, 6-2. The tightest singles match of the day was the #4 singles match between Ryan Dugan of the Banana Slugs and Zain Ali of the Jumbos. Ali defeated Dugan 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.
The Jumbos won all three doubles matches. In the #2 doubles match between Dugan and Stone of UC Santa Cruz and Nik Telkedzhiev and Garrett Weinstein of Tufts, Telkedzhiev and Weinstein defeated Dugan and Stone 8-4. In the #3 doubles match between Hollister and Le Duff of the Banana Slugs and Glickman and Kelly of the Jumbos, Glickman and Kelly defeated Hollister and Le Duff 8-5. The tightest doubles match was the #1 doubles match between Flora and Sirovica of UC Santa Cruz and Cary and Gupte of Tufts. Cary and Gupte defeated Flora and Sirovica 9-7.
