CLAREMONT, CA -- The Banana Slugs traveled to Southern California to play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The match was a rematch of a match that the Banana Slugs and the Stags played on March 25^th in Claremont. The Stags defeated the Banana Slugs 5-0. 

Both teams won their last match. UC Santa Cruz defeated George Fox University 6-3 on April 18^th and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Pomona Pitzer 7-2 on May 2^nd. 

Four matches went unfinished while the Stags won two matches. The #1 singles match between Max Littlejohn of UC Santa Cruz and Warren Wood of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps went unfinished with Wood leading 6-2, 3-1. The #2 singles match between Chad Stone of the Banana Slugs and Skyler Butts of the Stags went unfinished with Butts leading 7-6, 2-2. The #3 singles match between Kyle Richter of UC Sana Cruz and Nik Marino of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the match went unfinished with Marino leading 7-5, 1-3. The #4 singles match between Chetan Munugala of the Banana Slugs and Joe Dorn of the Stags went unfinished with Dorn leading 6-3, 4-2. In the #6 singles match between Garrett Deguchi of UC Santa Cruz and Glenn Hull of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Hull defeated Deguchi 6-0, 6-0. The tightest singles match of the day was the #5 singles match between Derek Levchenko of the Banana Slugs and Daniel Morkovine of the Stags. Morkovine defeated Levchenko 6-3, 6-1. 

The Stags won all three doubles matches. In the #1 doubles match, the team of Dorn and Wood of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated the team of Littlejohn and Richter of UC Santa Cruz 8-4. In the #3 doubles match, the Stags' team of Hull and Marino defeated the Banana Slugs' team of Levchenko and Stone 8-6. The tightest doubles match was the #2 doubles match between Munugala and Adrian Sirovica of UC Santa Cruz and Butts and Morkovine of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Butts and Morkovine defeated Munugala and Sirovica 9-7.
