In the first regular meeting between the two schools since 1989, UC Santa Cruz fell to CCAA leader Sonoma State 5-0 on a sunny Friday afternoon tilt.
UC Santa Cruz falls to 3-6-2. Sonoma State, ranked 12th in Division II, improves to 8-1-2.
The Seawolves outshot UCSC 26-6 and had a 10-2 edge in corners.
Sara Medor had a shot right before halftime saved, while Megan Carey had UCSC's two best chances in the second half to break the shutout.
In the 61st minute she sent a 20-yard rocket that clanged off the cross bar and three minutes later took in a cross but couldn't turn her body on it right, floating the ball over the post.
Kayla McCord had a shot a minute later that was saved.
Selina Davila Olivera had six saves playing all 90 minutes for the Banana Slugs.
The Slugs next head to southern California for games Sunday and Monday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Chapman.
