SANTA CRUZ-- The Women's Basketball team opened its 2001-2002 season with a home tournament this Weekend, with colleges from Westmont, Albertson and Linfield participating.
In its first game on Friday, UCSC lost to Linfield College, 66-44. Snior Guard Brianne Faria had 20 points and 8 rebounds for the Slugs, but the team suffered greatly from 34 turnovers and a shooting percentage of 26.7%. Shae Wright would lead Linfield with 12 points.
In the consolation game, UCSC lost to Westmont College, 93-51. The team looked improved on offense, but was scorched on the defensive end by a Westmont team that shot 52.4% from the field. Sophomore Forward Rachel Baudler led the Slugs with 14 points and 3 steals.
Later that evening, Albertson would defeat Linfield in the Chamionship game, 53-44.
