On Friday, the Sea Lions lost to College of Notre Dame, 110-74, and on Saturday, they fell to the Naval Post Graduate School 111-85 in Monterey.
"Both games were almost carbon copies of each other," UCSC Coach Joe Richardson said. "We played well offensively both nights"
In Saturday's game, Richardson pointed to a lack of inside strength as the Sea Lions' problem. "They (NPGS) would shoot and miss and play volleyball and put it back in." The Naval Post Graduate School was led by Toby Knight, with 34 points and Eric Boatwright with 27. UCSC was led by Dave Little with 27 and Mike Weaver with 17.
The Sea Lions experienced something most of the players have never experienced before. "We played on a carpet floor (in Monterey)," Richardson said. "It's real strange. It's like a morgue out there you can't hear the ball bounce. We're not used to playing indoors like that." In Friday's game, the Sea Lions were led by Russ Henshall who dropped in 20 points. Right behind were Weaver and Little with 13 points apiece. Henshall had 10 rebounds in each game to lead the Sea Lions both nights.
