SAN JOSE - Wednesday night's Bay Area Intercollegiate Athletic League-opening men's basketball-victory was just what the doctor ordered for the UCSC Sea Lions.
"It was wonderful to finally have a game we didn't have to struggle to win," said UCSC Coach Mark Henry after his two-time defending league Champion Sea Lions blasted host San Jose Bible College 85-53.
UCSC scored 46 points in the first half a season-high performance for the Sea Lions, as was the team's final point total.
UCSC's biggest lead came midway through the second half when the Sea Lions opened up a 63-26 advantage. John Saintignon topped UCSC (3-8) with 30 points, while Bruno Baldini added 16. Scotty Roesch dished off nine assists for the Sea Lions, while teammate Tom Buffett pulled down eight rebounds. Of the 13 who played in the game for the Sea Lions, 11 scored.
Jim Jessup led San Jose with 30 points. Henry said that freshman point guard Mike Yep, who injured his knee Monday night in a loss to Alaska-Juneau, is out for the season.
