Shelby Yung joins the UC Santa Cruz Athletics & Recreation Department in February 2026 as the inaugural Assistant Director of Community Engagement and Physical Education. She will play an integral role in collaborating with campus partners and the greater Santa Cruz community while coordinating Physical Education classes throughout the academic year.Â
Yung joins the Banana Slugs after serving as the Student Services Coordinator and Senior Woman Administrator at NCAA Division III Pomona-Pitzer Athletics for the past two and half years. She focused on student-athlete programming dedicated to leadership and career development, mental health, nutrition, and community service as well as advised the PP Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student-Athlete Affinity Groups. Yung also served on Pomona’s Staff Council, Restorative Justice Working Group, 5C Teal Dot, and Pitzer’s Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Assessment Team. Â
A native of Upland, California, she previously spent time at the Southern California University of Health Sciences as an Admissions Advisor and Enrollment Support Specialist, Los Angeles Angels Baseball as a Client Service Representative, and UCLA Athletics as an Account Executive for Ticket Sales and Service.Â
Yung played collegiate softball and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications at Utah Tech University then a Master's Degree in Higher Education Leadership and Student Development at California Baptist University. Â
