Professor Guido Bordignon was installed as Faculty Athletic Representative in summer 2023. He earned a Master and a Pharm. D. at the University of Padova where he also played rugby at professional level winning multiple national titles and playing internationally. 
In 2005, he started a Ph.D. researching new drugs from the ocean between the University of Venice and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. After grad school, he became Assistant Professor at the University of Venice, in Italy, before meeting his wife during a research expedition in Antarctica and relocated to the US.

Professor Bordignon later worked at Stanford, where he taught medical microbiology and pharmacology and directed the Pharmacology program at the Physician Assistant masters. Simultaneously he worked at the Community College level, where he found his passion and dedication to Biological Educational Research and evidence-based pedagogy.  

Professor Bordignon has coached the men's rugby team at UC Santa Cruz for 3 years and is faculty in the Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology Department. He was awarded this year’s Excellence In Teaching award as well as the Ron Ruby Teaching Award for his commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Along with Jeremy Sanford- another - MCD Biology Faculty member and Rugby coach- the two were awarded a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation in 2022 for their work in faculty-led labs offering course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) in the MCD Biology Department.
