Clint Angus is an Associate Director for Athletics & Recreation at UC Santa Cruz with oversight of all facilities & maintenance, marketing & branding, home athletics contests, recreational sports programming, and outdoor adventure programming. He serves on the department’s NCAA compliance team and as a sport administrator for multiple teams. He also currently serves as the planning chair for Cornucopia, a campus-wide new student orientation event that hosts over 250 booths, music, exclusive dining services, and live performances.

Angus has been at UC Santa Cruz in various administrative roles since January 2016 and contributed to much of the department’s internal and external growth during that time. Internally, Clint most looks forward to executing facility projects that mitigate safety concerns, maximize the available facility footprint, and in turn enhance user experiences for the UC Santa Cruz student body. Anywhere a Redwood Slug or UC Slug logo is seen, it is likely that Clint was involved in executing the project. Programmatically, Angus prioritizes ease of access and equity for students while facilitating top-shelf, professional recreational services for today’s UC students.

Externally, Angus’ tenure with the Banana Slugs has so far included establishing and developing a department-wide marketing team. Within that effort, he successfully orchestrated a campus-wide rebranding campaign for Athletics & Recreation known as #NewSlug2020 which yielded over 18,000 survey responses from the campus community over the course of the 2019-2020 academic year. He more recently spearheaded the redesign survey campaign for Sammy Slug, the school’s beloved mascot, and continues working to build the campus mascot program for the most intriguing intercollegiate mascot on the planet.

Clint came to UC Santa Cruz from the University of Iowa as a graduate assistant. In Iowa City, he worked with the campus’ Intramural Sports program of the Recreational Services department while completing his Master of Arts degree in Leisure Studies, now known as Sport & Recreational Management. Angus completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Clint’s passion for athletics in part stems from his abilities and interests in intercollegiate football and basketball officiating.
