Riley Hanley joined the UC Santa Cruz coaching staff in 2018 after playing most recently with Reno 1868 FC, the San Jose Earthquakes USL affiliate. His playing experience encompasses a 4-year collegiate career at Saint Mary's College of California where he was part of the team's first-ever WCC conference championship and record-setting NCAA Elite 8 appearance in 2011.

After graduating in 2015 with a degree in Kinesiology, he continued his playing with various teams in PDL, USL, and MLS levels. Riley has coached for many different youth and high schools teams in the Bay Area, including Diablo FC, Stanford Soccer Club, and Menlo High School. He is taking his USSF Coaching Licenses and is currently enrolled to achieve his C License as of 2020. He also holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification from NSCA.
