Three Banana Slugs Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Three UC Santa Cruz student-athletes earned weekly honors in the Coast-to-Coast Conference for the week of Sept. 8-13th. Ainsley Gove earned athlete of the week in women’s soccer after a standout performance in goal, and cross country swept weekly honors with Madelyn Basinet and Gavin Hahn leading the Banana Slugs at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational in Turlock, CA.
Gove posted a perfect week in the net for UC Santa Cruz women’s soccer, collecting 10 saves in two shutout wins for the Banana Slugs. Earning six saves against University of Redlands on Sept. 10th and four against University of La Verne on Sept 12th, Gove’s solid presence in the net allowed late goals by the Banana Slugs to secure two 1-0 wins during the week.
Basinet led UCSC women’s cross country in Kim Duyst Twilight Invite in Turlock, CA., posting a time of 23:01.5 on Saturday, Sept. 12th. Basinet finished in 29th place to help the Banana Slugs finish 4th overall in the women’s tournament.
Hahn finished with a time of 25:56 to lead UC Santa Cruz men’s cross country team in Turlock late Saturday night. His finish placed him 35th overall in the race, and first amongst the 12 Banana Slugs competing as UCSC finished in 4th place at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invite.
