SANTA CRUZ, Ca. - On Monday May 12th, UC Santa Cruz Athletics and Recreation celebrated 70 student-athletes who were inducted in the inaugural class of The National College Athlete Honor Society Chi Alpha Sigma. UC Santa Cruz was awarded the California Sigma Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma in September 2024.
Founded in 1996 by DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis, the mission of Chi Alpha Sigma is to bring honor and recognition to deserving college student-athletes who excel in the classroom and athletic competition.
In order to be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a student-athlete must achieve junior or senior academic standing at their institution and sports team, and complete four full time semesters or six quarters of college course work after high school, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
