Slugs Earn Dominant Victories Over Simpson University

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's swim and dive teams earned dominant victories over the Simpson Redhawks with the women earning a 156-4 win while the men picked up a 150-16 victory. The Slugs will be back in action on January 24th when they travel to Claremont, California to take on Pomona-Pitzer at 3:00 p.m.

Women's Meet Highlights

Mixed 200 Medley Relay: The team of Teo Truong, Elbridge Shi, Katy Hawk, and Keaton Canaday combined for a time of 1:38.32 to win the event.
1650 Free: Piper Strickler was the standout in the mile, touching the wall in 18:08.78 to take first.
200 Free: Kirsten Boyle took first with a time of 1:56.48.
50 Free: Katy Hawk took first with a time of 24.89s.
200 IM: Selma Malkic took first with a time of 2:12.69.
100 Fly: Kaitlyn Armstrong picked up the victory in the event as the only swimmer under the one minute mark, touching the wall in 59.81s.
100 Free: Kirsten Boyle turned in a 53.10s performance to take first overall.
100 Back: Selma Malkic took first overall in 59.06s, finishing as the only sub one minute swimmer in the event.
500 Free: Katy Hawk took first overall with a time of 5:14.02.
100 Breast: Zoe Gronert took first with a time of 1:07.99.
200 Free Relay: The Slugs capped off the evening with Hawk, Canaday, Paiten Tobey, and Fiona Lei combining for a winning time of 1:39.75.

100 Fly: Sam Caplan took first with a time of 56.25 seconds.
100 Free: Connor Bruton was the standout for UCSC, touching the wall first in 50.19s.
100 Back: Kyle Reitan and Andrew Koika had a close race with Reitan earning the win in 54.16s while Koika touched in 54.25s for second.
500 Free: Luke Scanlon took first after swimming a 4:47.58.
100 Breast: Connor Bruton took first with a time of 58.84s.
200 Free Relay: Koika, Hussain, Adam Sinclair, and Kent Nishida combined for a winning time of 1:25.79.
