Congratulations are in order for the second-year captain of the UC Santa Cruz men's volleyball team,
Riley Norman, as he was selected as a 2nd Team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American for the 2024 season, as voted by coaches from Division lll schools all over the country. A week prior, Norman was named AVCA All-Region. He is the program's first All-American since Raymond Cascio in 2019.Â
Norman had an outstanding season, averaging 3.65 kills a set, with a season and career high of 36 kills against St. John Fisher on February 2nd. The 36 kills was the most by a UCSC player in a single match in the past 25 years. With 35 aces (season high of 5 aces against Adrian), 168 digs (season high of 17 digs against North Central), and 54 assists on the season (season high of 5 against Hobart), Norman helped lead his team to 17 victories this season.Â
Head coach Jacob Landel applauded his captain for his hard work and improvement of the team throughout the season. "Much of the credit should go to Riley, whose leadership and consistent work ethic are a stark example to our team of what it means to be a high-performing student-athlete."
