Women's Basketball celebrates Senior Day

Lincoln University hit a game-winning jumper with 4.7 seconds left to escape with a 58-56 win over UC Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon.
It was Senior Day for UC Santa Cruz (8-14), who before the game honored Lilli Hammons and Amanda Inserra.

The game started at a slow pace, with the Banana Slugs hitting just one field goal in the first minute. A three-pointer from Alexa Litchev jump started the offense with 5:35 left, starting an 11-2 run that finished with Jenna Gorton's "and-1" that gave UC Santa Cruz the lead at 13-12 with 2:50 left in the quarter. The game went back-and-forth again, but another "and-1" by Talysha Wilkerson broke the tie and gave UC Santa Cruz a 21-20 lead with 8:39 left in the second quarter. The Banana Slugs eventually stretched it to a 36-30 lead at halftime.

Lincoln chipped away the lead in the third, and were within 2 at 46-44 when the fourth quarter began. The Banana Slugs were up 56-51, but the visitors outscored UC Santa Cruz 7-0 over the last 3:17. The Banana Slugs had one final opportunity, but the jumper with no time left missed the mark.

Celine Castaneda and Gorton each had 10 points off the bench to lead UC Santa Cruz. Castaneda was 4-4 on field goals, her fourth game this season without missing an attempt. Ariel Anderson and Hammons each had nine rebounds, helping UC Santa Cruz outrebound the Oaks 48-30.
Lincoln's Senaida Barrientos led all players with 15 points.

The Banana Slugs close the regular season Friday afternoon at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
