ORANGE, CA – The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs battled for a 2-2 draw against Chapman University in a competitive road match on Saturday. Goals from
Joaquin Greenberg and
Soren Groessl helped UCSC fight back for their sixth draw of the season, moving their record to 4-1-6.
How It Happened
UCSC opened the scoring in the 25th minute when
Joaquin Greenberg found the back of the net, assisted by
Nico Herrera-Land and
Nikolas Wheeler-Quintanilla. The Banana Slugs continued to press, but Chapman equalized in the 38th minute to send the game into halftime tied 1-1.
The second half saw an intensity uptick as both teams searched for a winner. Chapman took the lead in the 65th minute, but UCSC responded with a goal from
Soren Groessl in the 76th minute to level the score again. The Banana Slugs had several opportunities, with eight shots in the second half—four on target—but neither team could break the deadlock.
