REDLANDS, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women's soccer team improved to 8-2-5 on the season with a 3-0 road victory over the University of Redlands Bulldogs. The Slugs scored early and never looked back against the Bulldogs as
Amanda Scott and
Chelyn Ackerman scored in the fifth and eighth minute before Scott struck again in the 23rd minute. The Banana Slugs outshot the Bulldogs 31-6 with 13 shots on goal to the Bulldogs' three. With the victory, the Slugs improved their win streak to three games and will be back in action on Nov. 2 when they host Stanton University at 2:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Banana Slugs pressured right from the opening whistle with
Camille Anneet putting a shot on goal just 1:25 into the contest.
Chelyn Ackerman took a just just over a minute and a half later before
Amanda Scott struck the back of the net in the fifth minute to put the Slugs up 1-0. The pressure didn't stop there as
Chelyn Ackerman doubled the lead to 2-0 in the eighth minute for UC Santa Cruz.
The Banana Slugs continued to smother the Redlands defense, pressuring the back like until
Amanda Scott broke through again in the 23rd for her second goal of the contest, giving UCSC a convincing 3-0 lead in the first half.
Redlands managed to put three shots on goal to end the first half, but Slugs goalkeeper
Ainsley Gove was there to make all three saves and preserve the 3-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the Banana Slugs controlled play, outshooting Redlands 16-1 but the score remained at 3-0 as UC Santa Cruz earned the weekend road victory over the Bulldogs.
