Volkamer Strikes Lone Goal for Senior Day Victory Over Menlo

SANTA CRUZ, CA. – UC Santa Cruz earned a 1-0 victory over Menlo College on Wednesday thanks to a late first-half goal by Torin Volkamer. The Banana Slugs played strong throughout, holding Menlo to just one shot in the first half and securing the win at East Field. The game featured a chippy play style from start to finish with both teams ending the contest with three yellow cards each in a physical 1-0 win for the Slugs. 
 
How It Happened
UCSC dominated the first half, taking four shots—three of them on target—and drawing three corners. Their persistence paid off in the 42nd minute when Torin Volkamer scored to give the Banana Slugs a 1-0 lead. Defensively, UCSC held Menlo to just one shot in the half.
 
In the second half, UCSC continued their solid play, adding three more shots and earning another corner. Menlo had one big chance late in the game, but UCSC goalkeeper Chris Jamrok made a crucial save to preserve the clean sheet and secure the win as they improve to 5-1-8.
