Box Score FRESNO – After coming back from their East Coast conference road trip, UC Santa Cruz men's basketball played Division II Fresno Pacific University and lost 67-47.
The game started with the Banana Slugs getting the first points on a jumper by
Treyson Keating making the score 2-0 (19:40). Then,
Zach Granberry made an open three-pointer (5-2, 19:04). The Banana Slugs had a good play with
Ian McCloskey drawing in the defense before faking a layup, then passing the ball to
Caden Breznikar to make an open three (23-14, 10:05). Unfortunately, the Sunbirds secured the first half in the lead with the score being 37-23.
The second half started with perfect free throws by Keating (37-25, 19:28). Towards the end of the game,
Zino Okah saw an opportunity and passed it to
GianCarlo Toledo-Rivera, who was open and made a nothing-but-net three-pointer, Toledo-Rivera's first points as a Banana Slug (61-41, 5:40). However, The Sunbirds ended the match winning 67-47.
Breznikar had eleven points to lead the Banana Slugs along with one block and three rebounds. Toledo-Rivera had nine points with three rebounds in six minutes of action.
Tyler Kessinger had a team-high six rebounds UC Santa Cruz will next play against Westmont College on Saturday, February 3rd in Santa Barbara at 2:00 PM.
