UC Santa Cruz women's basketball rewrote the record book as the Banana Slugs rolled to a 120-53 win over Bethesda Friday afternoon.
It was the most points ever scored by a UC Santa Cruz team, surpassing the 117 scored at La Verne on February 5th, 2022.

UC Santa Cruz opened the game with three-pointers by Amanda Inserra and Alyssa Jackson for an early 6-0 advantage. The Flames settled in and were within seven at 20-13 with under three minutes remaining in the quarter, but UC Santa Cruz finished ahead 26-16 after a free throw and layup from Ariel Anderson.
Another three by Jackson started a 9-1 run to open the second quarter, making it 35-17. Inserra's putback jumper at the buzzer gave UC Santa Cruz a 48-26 lead at halftime.
The lead was 81-38 at the end of the third, and the Banana Slugs finished strong in the fourth. They scored a season-best 39 points in the last quarter, bettering the school scoring record on Uma Joshi's three-pointer with 40 seconds left.

Lilli Hammons had career highs of 23 points and 18 rebounds. Inserra scored 20 points to move to 10th all-time on the school's career scoring chart. Alexa Litchev had a double-double with career highs of 20 points and 16 rebounds. Jenna Gorton (15 points, 15 rebounds) and Anderson (10 points, 10 rebounds) also had double-doubles along with six assists each.
Jackson and Celine Castaneda each scored 12 points.

The Banana Slugs also set a school record with 77 rebounds. 30 of the rebounds were offensive, allowing the Banana Slugs to tally 38 second-chance points. The Banana Slugs went 44-100 from the field. The 100 attempts also set a school record, with the 44 successful baskets the most by a UC Santa Cruz team since 1997.
