HAYWARD (1-13) - In their second meet of the calendar year, the UC Santa Cruz Swim and Dive team produced some great times at a four-team meet hosted by Cal State East Bay.
In addition to the host Pioneers, the Banana Slugs faced off against Division II Simon Fraser and Southwestern Oregon Community College.
For the men, first-year
Kyle Reitan led the points parade with a first-place showing in the 50 Free in 21.50. Reitan also placed fourth in both the 100 Free (48.49) and 200 Free (1:48.21). Reitan also was in the 200 Free Relay with
Massimo Reyna,
Bryson Schmid, and
J.J. Stoen who were second by .01 seconds.
Other standout performances saw Reyna come in third in the 200 Free (1:46.73) and fourth in the 500 Free (4:59.55). Stoen was second in the 200 IM in 1:57.49.
Ethan Porter was third in the 100 Backstroke (54.80), while
Luke Scanlon was third in the 200 Backstroke (1:59.14) and fourth in the 200 IM (1:59.67).
On the women's side,
Maddy Gruender,
Kirsten Boyle,
Kaitlyn Armstrong and
Gabrielle Nguyen were fourth in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:07.60. The 200 Free Relay with Armstrong, Gruender,
Tereza Shea and
Emerald Kwang also placed fourth in 1:41.02. Gruender was 5th in both the 200 Free (1:59.52) and 200 Backstroke (2:09.61). Shea placed fourth in the 50 Free in 25.23, Boyle was fourth in the 200 Fly in 2:13.07, and Armstrong was fourth in the 100 Backstroke in 59.42. Nguyen was fourth in the 200 Breaststroke (2:32.24), and fifth in the 100 Breaststroke (1:10.28).
The Banana Slugs next face Simpson at the East Field House pool on Saturday January 20th starting at noon.
