Women's Golf places sixth at Spring Invite

PACIFIC GROVE-- UC Santa Cruz women's golf finished sixth out of ten teams at their 2023 Spring Invite at the Pacific Grove Golf Links.
Against the biggest and most talented field ever at the Invite, the Banana Slugs finished with a two-day team score of 650.
Senior Gillian Mendoza improved by six strokes in Sunday's second round to finish with 160, good enough for 20th place.
Alyssa Yee and Tani Ng tied for 22nd with a two-day score of 162. Yee improved by four strokes from Saturday. Riley Birch was 31st after her two-day total of 166 and Mikaela Paracuelles was 43rd with 171.
Overall, UC Santa Cruz scored 650 as a team, taking eight strokes off their team score from Saturday.
No. 2 ranked Redlands took the team title after narrowly edging Pomona-Pitzer 605 to 608 over the two days. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was in third place with a score of 612. Alison Takamiya of George Fox repeated as Medalist from last year. She finished with a score of 148 (4 over) after making par her last seven holes. Joining her on the All-Tournament team were Kendall Nicholson and Hannah Jugar (Redlands). Claire Whisenant (Pomona), Stella Chang (Claremont), and Karen Alvarez (UT Dallas). Three shots separated the top eight golfers in the field.
UC Santa Cruz next will prepare for the American Southwest Conference Championship in two weeks in Texas.
