Banana Slugs Take Two to End Trip to Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE (2-5) – Tenth-ranked UC Santa Cruz wrapped up their road trip to the Badger State as they took on Lakeland University and Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee. The Banana Slugs won the morning match against the Muskies 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13) and swept the Warriors in the afternoon match 25-18, 25-16, 25-7. The Banana Slugs improved to 12-3 on the season.


Match One
UC Santa Cruz started the match white hot committing no attack errors in the first set – combining that with a .538 attack percentage as they won the first set 25-17. In the second set, the Banana Slugs committed nine attack errors as they won the second set 25-21. In the pivotal third set, the two teams played a back and forth set with the Banana Slugs coming out on top 25-22. In the fourth set, the Banana Slugs hit .455 for the set and cruised to a 25-13 fourth set victory.
 
Trevor Jackson had a match-high twelve kills for the Banana Slugs. Zachary Thompson had eleven.
 
Match Two
In the second match, the Banana Slugs used their whole bench and held the host Warriors to a negative hitting percentage for the match. In the first set, after the Warriors had closed the Banana Slugs' lead to two, at 19-17, the Banana Slugs finished the set on a 6-1 run, capped by three Noy Fisher service aces, to win the first set 25-18. In the second set, the Banana Slugs had only six attack errors enroute to a 25-16 set win. The Banana Slugs would close the match with only one attack error in the third set and won the third set 25-7.
 
Leo Tuncer led the Banana Slugs with 16 kills and six digs. Johndiego White had a season-high 17 assists for the Banana Slugs.
 
The Banana Slugs will return to the friendly confines of West Field House next Saturday as they take host a tripleheader. The Banana Slugs will play NAIA opponents Westcliff University (4:30 pm) and Menlo College (7:00 pm). Menlo and Westcliff will play each other at 2 pm.
