OAKLAND - UC Santa Cruz fell to 8-15 on the year with a 94-60 loss to Division II Academy of Art Tuesday night in Oakland.
The visitors could not get going in the first half, shooting just 33% and committing 15 turnovers. The Banana Slugs came out on fire in the second half however.
Justin Yasukochi converted an "And-1" with 13:33 left to get the Banana Slugs within four at 48-44. The Urban Knights answered with a 19-4 run over the next 5:06 to push their lead to 67-46, and prevented UC Santa Cruz from making another run.
Zino Okah led UC Santa Cruz scoring 10 of his 16 points in the second half.
Eric DeBrine added eight points and seven rebounds. Yasukochi had a team and season high five assists to go with his seven points. Overall, Academy of Art shot 49.4% (39-79) compared to UC Santa Cruz hitting 44% (24-54). The Banana Slugs had a slight 39-36 rebounding edge but gave up 32 turnovers.
UC Santa Cruz closes the regular season Thursday night at UC Merced.
