WALLA WALLA, WA— UC Santa Cruz women's tennis finished the weekend at Whitman Fall Invite with two huge wins.
The Banana Slugs kept the train rolling with an 8-1 victory over Whitworth on Friday, making it two in a row on the roadtrip. They closed the Invite with a comeback 5-4 win over the host Blues to end up 3-0 on the weekend.

The Banana Slugs got outstanding doubles play from the doubles teams of
Sara Beckman/
Natalie Sprenger,
Tanner Rowland/
Meghana Damojipurapu and
Chloe Wu/
Sweden Van Houten. They also got a great match from the first-year duo of
Keona Gutierrez DeArmond and
Melody Ghaffari at No.4.

Singles were also firing on all cylinders with straight set victories by Beckman, Sprenger, Rowland, Damojipurapu, and Van Houten.

On Sunday morning against Whitman, UC Santa Cruz opened the dual ahead 2-1 after doubles, thanks to wins again by Rowland/ Damojipurapu and Wu/ Van Houten. After trailing 4-2, the Banana Slugs tied it with wins from Wu and Ghaffari.

The match came down to Rowland in a three-set slugfest. Rowland bounced back from a 1-4 deficit and rolled off 5 straight games to take her match and win the dual.

UC Santa Cruz (3-0) has one more weekend of action in the Fall when they travel next weekend to Division II Dominican.
