FOREST GROVE, OR - UC Santa Cruz women's volleyball split on their last day in Oregon, dropping a 3-1 heartbreaker to George Fox before rebounding for a 3-0 sweep over Linfield to finish 3-1 at the Oregon Trail Classic.
The Banana Slugs are now 7-2 on the season.
Match 1- George Fox
In the morning match, the Banana Slugs came out firing early but lost to George Fox in four (25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 24-26). The Banana Slugs hit .444 in taking the opening set, but hit just .155 combined in the other three sets. Despite both teams registering 50 kills and UCSC holding an 18-12 advantage in aces, George Fox finished the match with six more digs (51-45) and hit .277 to the Banana Slugs' .215.
In the final set, UCSC rallied from being down 23-22 to earn  set point, but the Bruins won the last three points to win the match.
Audrey Gilbert hit .643 with 10 kills.
Samantha Taylor also had 10 kills, as well as tying the school record with a career-high nine service aces.
Match 2-Linfield
The Banana Slugs never let the Wildcats be a factor in the match, hitting a season-high .444 and using a season-high 11 blocks to limit Linfield to .024 hitting in the 25-13, 25-14, 25-14 win.
Peyton Tazelaar had team-highs of 12 kills and nine digs.
Vanessa Ojeikere had five blocks, including two in the final run to close the match.
Sinead Beaupain had 18 assists and passed Kaitlyne Fisher (2012-14) for eighth place on the school's career list with 1,162.
UC Santa Cruz spends the next week in the Los Angeles Area, starting with a match at Whittier Tuesday evening.
