UC Santa Cruz's women's tennis won a pair of dual matches this weekend at the East Tennis Courts
On Friday, the Banana Slugs defeated shorthanded William Jessup 7-0. The duo of
Ines Pelvang and
Tanner Rowland defeated their Jessup opponents 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Isabella Francis and
Daniela Christian won their match 8-5.
Sara Beckman,
Natalie Sprenger,
Julia Chiaradia Azzi,
Sophia Nguyen and Christian all won their singles matchups in straight sets. AÂ doubles and a singles match both went as walkovers as the Warriors had just five players and couldn't fill those features.
The team continued their great play Saturday winning 9-0 against American River College. All the singles wins were straight sets with Christian,
Isabella Chacon and
Jolie Seemayer not dropping a single point.
"Our commitment to execute both team and personal goals helped us 'zone-in' and play hard against both William Jessup and American River," Rowland said. "This weekend's high-intensity tennis alongside immense support from teammates made our matches enjoyable from start to finish. So many improvements have already been made and I can't wait to get back on the courts."
UC Santa Cruz continues their homestand next Saturday the 20th when they host Division II Academy of Art.
